This oil cooler bypass replaces the original oil cooler on the Type-1 engine and provides a metric M18x1.5 connection for an external oil cooler.
The M8 mounting hole pattern and the large oil ducts are adapted for use with late Type-1 engine cases (1970 onwards) but the oil cooler bypass can also be mounted on all cases with 6mm studs and small oil ducts (-'69).
Our mounting kit part number 5026 provides all necessary mounting hardware for the different engine cases.
Please order mounting kit separately if required.
Due to different case designs, some engines have M6 threads on the oil cooler, while others have M8 threads.
There is no easy way of telling which one your engine uses or requires, unless your engine is dismantled.
Our hardware kit for the oil cooler adapter 5025eu has been designed to suit both M6 and M8 applications, therefore avoiding any confusion at the time of order.
This billet sandwich thermostat makes connecting an external oil cooler easy.
Just place it between the oil filter bracket and the filter!
The conical piston ensures reliably that all oil passes through the external cooler at 82 degrees Celsius (179.6° F).
Two M18x1.5 connecting threads for oil lines
One M14x1.5 connecting thread with stainless steel plug (for optional oil temp sender)
One M10x1 connecting thread with stainless steel plug (for optional thermo switch)
